Seeded Boys Recap - Foot Locker Northeast Regional 2002Published by
Seeded Boys - Brendan Fennell leads New York story and photos by John Dye Ten boys crossed the last bridge 1000 meters from home in a big pack, led by Josh McDougal. Then McDougal fell back and the others pounded furiously down the long finishing straightaway next to Broadway Avenue. The lead seesawed between Brendan Fennell, Ian Gottesfeld, and Kevin Tschirhart, with Fennell prevailing. Hakon Devries, not a qualifier at the bridge, "passed a bunch of guys" in the last 400 meters; in fact he passed everyone but Fennell to get second. The first seven boys crossed the finish line within 7 seconds. New York won the team title over New Jersey, 30-71.
