In Boston on Saturday night two meets were held only a few miles apart from each other at Boston University and “The Track” at New Balance that included several Connecticut athletes who posted all time performances.

At the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational at BU, Glastonbury’s Brooke Strauss was pushed to her limits against college runners and finished 24th in a new national leading time of 4:45.83. The junior finally broke her school record, held by current Wisconsin cross country coach Lindsay Crevoiserat, that she just missed when she won the Yale Invitational in 4:50.26. Her time moves her ahead of All American Jessica Dropp of Coginchaug in the all time CT mile list into the second spot, just behind Greenwich’s Ceci Hopp’s 43-year old state record of 4:45.09.

Also at the meet Hall’s Isaac Mahler broke coach Everett Hackett’s 16-year old school record in the 5000m, finishing 17th in a time of 14:55.20. He became the 6th CIAC runner to go under 15-minutes and his time moves him ahead of Joe Crafa and Jay Koloseus who were both All American in the 5k to become the 4th fastest runner in CT history.

Alex Fisher of Berlin who attends Loomis Chaffee, a private school, took 43rd in the 3000m in a time of 8:32.66. Only a sophomore, he finished 7th at the Foot Locker Northeast regional and placed 34th at Nationals in San Diego.

Also at BU’s national renown track, Byron Grevious, who is from Fairfield and currently attends Phillips Exeter in New Hampshire took 20th in the 3000m. He not only ran a US #1 time, he also broke the New England record, running a time of 8:10.99. According to Larry Newman, New England record keeper, Grievous broke David Principe’s (La Salle RI) record of 8:14.61 from 2017. The senior, who has committed to Stanford University, won the Nike Northeast Regional Championship race and finished 11th at Nike Cross Nationals.

Across town at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, Ridgefield’s Steven Hergenrother raced an elite field in the Junior Boys International Mile at The New Balance Track. He finished 7th in 4:09.75. Winning the race was JoJo Jourdon from Salt Lake City, UT who became the 6th US high school boy to break 4-minutes for the mile indoors, winning in a time of 3:59.87. For you long time fans of the sport, that time was only .01 seconds off Alan’s Webb’s time, who was the first US high school boy to break the barrier on an indoor track in 2001.
